BOSS was built by Feadship in the Netherlands as Gallant Lady IV and was originally associated with Jim and Jan Moran, the prominent American boating family. She subsequently carried the names Detroit Eagle, Allegra, Ozark Lady, and M before becoming BOSS. The boat is an unusual combination of superyacht and sportfisher: her aluminum planing hull gives her considerably more speed than a conventional displacement Feadship, while her 120-foot length provides enormous accommodations and range.
The 2015 refit was a significant chapter in her history. Her current configuration includes a large flybridge, four guest cabins accommodating eight, five crew berths, a full-beam master suite, teak decks and a substantial fishing cockpit. More recently, the boat has been equipped with hydraulic outriggers, two Seakeeper stabilizers, a new septic system, updated electronics, watermaker, laundry equipment and upgraded galley/outdoor cooking equipment. The current listing also describes her as having approximately 4,200 nautical miles of range, although that differs from the 2,000-nm figure quoted by some yacht databases depending on speed/fuel assumptions.
One particularly fun detail is that BOSS is currently configured to carry a 48-foot Custom Carolina RG Boatworks sportfisher, effectively making the Feadship a mothership for another serious fishing boat.
