Growler is a 1994 Alan Andrews ILC 40 built by Westerly Marine as a purpose-built high-performance racing yacht, and she has an extraordinary pedigree: in her very first season, she won Class C and the overall 1994 Kenwood Cup, one of the most prestigious international offshore racing events of its era. Her sail number 46186 provides a clear link to her later racing career, including competition in Southern California’s Long Point Race Week, where she was still racing competitively in 2017 with Jared Gargano and Balboa Yacht Club, finishing 3rd overall in PHRF D. Designed by renowned Southern California naval architect Alan Andrews, Growler represents the cutting edge of early-1990s ILC racing design and is notable not just for her speed, but for having a documented Kenwood Cup overall championship on her résumé.
