Elixir is a 1998 Nelson/Marek 50 built by Goetz Custom Sailboats, a high-performance offshore racing yacht with an impressive Southern California racing pedigree. The individual boat is identifiable by sail number USA 52555 and was raced by Chad and Kerrie Downey through California Yacht Club, competing in major events including the Santa Barbara–King Harbor Race, Long Point Race Week and other offshore races. In 2013 she carried an exceptionally fast PHRF rating of -27 and was listed as a ULDB (Ultra-Light Displacement Boat); that same year she was part of the Long Point Race Week fleet and is documented as having achieved an overall win in the event. Her combination of Nelson/Marek design, Goetz construction and proven offshore racing record makes Elixir a particularly notable example of a 50-foot performance sailboat rather than a conventional cruising yacht.
