2004 DK 46′

The DK 46 was designed by Mark Mills as a high-performance racer/cruiser, combining a powerful sail plan and performance-oriented hull and foils with a surprisingly comfortable interior. DK Yachts built the boats in Malaysia, and only 12 DK 46s were produced, making the class relatively rare. Cazan is identified in the Transpac records as a 2004 DK 46, and PHRF Southern California records list her hull material as aluminum. Her published dimensions are approximately 46 feet LOA, 13.5 feet beam and 9.9 feet draft.

Cazan has spent much of her life doing exactly what the DK 46 was designed for: fast offshore sailing. She became associated with J/World Performance Sailing, with Wayne Zittel and his team using her as both a racing platform and an offshore sailing school. She competed in the 2015 Transpac, sailing from Los Angeles to Honolulu under Scott Bradley, and later became a regular part of J/World’s offshore program. In the 2018 Pacific Cup, J/World’s Cazan completed the San Francisco-to-Hawaii race in 11 days, 11 hours and 4 minutes, finishing fifth in her division.

Her offshore résumé continued to grow. In 2019, Cazan was one of three J/World boats entered in the 50th Transpac, alongside Hula Girl and Westerly. During the 2020 San Diego-to-Puerto Vallarta Race, she was again being used as a J/World offshore training boat, with instructors and students sailing her from San Diego to Mexico. By 2022, she was racing as J/World’s Cazan under David Gates and finished fifth in the Pacific Cup, completing the Hawaii passage in just over 10 days.
