Javelin is a Farr 49 high-performance racing yacht with a long and impressive offshore-racing résumé. Identified by sail number 52592, she was raced by Dave Fell and the South Bay Yacht Racing Club and competed in major events including the Newport–Ensenada Race, Long Beach Race Week, and the Santa Barbara–King Harbor Race. She was exceptionally fast for her size, carrying a -24 PHRF rating in 2011 and an impressive -33 rating by 2015, when she finished second in the Fast 50 fleet at the Great Vallejo Race. The boat was also involved in the 2003 Key West Race Week collision with the Farr 49 Idler, an incident that sent professional sailor Ken Read overboard. Javelin is a serious offshore racing machine, with the pedigree and performance expected from a Bruce Farr 49.
